Professor Dr. Thomas Rüfner holds the Chair of Civil Law, Roman Law, Modern Private Law History, and German and International Civil Procedure Law at the University of Trier (School of Law, Department of Law). His research bridges ancient Roman law with contemporary German civil law, emphasizing the legacy of Ius Commune and its influence on European private legal systems.
Research Interests span Roman law, German civil law, comparative legal history, inheritance law, and civil procedural law. He explores the historical roots of modern legal concepts like authorship attribution in Roman texts using AI, medieval legal discourse, and private law evolution.
