Professor Thomas Finkenauer holds the Chair of Civil Law, Roman Law, and European Private Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Tübingen. His research focuses on German civil law (BGB), Roman private law, comparative European legal disciplines, and cultural property protection.

- Co-editor of Fundamina: A journal of legal history since 2015
- Co-editor of Research on Roman Law since 2024
- Director of the Law Seminar at the University of Tübingen
His teaching includes foundational courses in Civil Law, advanced Roman Legal History, and specialized seminars on Roman Personal and Inheritance Law. He has supervised numerous doctoral students whose works address topics spanning from classical Roman law to modern private law codifications.
