Prof. Dr. Tilman Repgen is a Professor of Civil Law, History of German Law, and Private Law in Modernity at the University of Hamburg, where he has held his chair since 1 April 2002. He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Law since 1 October 2010, re-elected in 2015. His research focuses on the fundamentals of civil law, historical development of German legal systems, and modern private law challenges.
His research interests include:
- Freedom, private autonomy, and personal responsibility in legal contexts
- Medieval and Early Modern legal history of Hamburg
- Evolution of the German Civil Code (BGB) since 1900
- Historical analysis of tenancy law
- Burden of proof in obligations law
