Thomas Pulimood

Thomas Pulimood is a Consultant Respiratory and General Physician who also serves as Tutor and Director of Studies (Clinical) for the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine (CGCM) within the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine. He is a Governing-Body Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge. Clinically, he is Lead in Respiratory Medicine and Lung Cancer at West Suffolk Hospital Foundation Trust—an associate teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge—and simultaneously works at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) within the Interventional Pulmonology/Pleural Team.

Research Interests:

Dr Pulimood’s research centres on the aetiology and clinical management of thunderstorm-related asthma, with broader expertise in airways disease, lung cancer pathways, interventional pulmonology, and pleural disorders. He has published work elucidating environmental triggers of acute asthma exacerbations and continues to investigate optimal therapeutic strategies for these conditions.

Teaching & Medical Education:

Since 2017 he has been Tutor and Director of Studies (Clinical) for the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine, responsible for curricular design and student mentoring. He also serves as Coordinator and Specialist Facilitator in Clinical Communication Skills for the same programme. Previously he was Training Programme Director for Respiratory Medicine in the East of England Deanery and remains a member of the regional Specialist Training Committee for Respiratory Medicine.

Personal: He is married to Dr Rebecca Jacob (Consultant Psychiatrist, Cambridge) and has two daughters, Nina (practising law in London) and Lisa (reading Psychology at Exeter).
