Thomas P. Frye

Thomas P. Frye, D.O. serves as Associate Professor of Urology and Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Urology at the University of Rochester Medical Center's School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is a board-certified urologist specializing in urologic oncology with expertise in minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate and kidney cancers, advanced open pelvic cancer surgery, and focal therapy for localized prostate cancer.

Dr. Frye completed his Doctor of Osteopathy at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by urology residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He received specialized fellowship training in Urologic Oncology at the National Cancer Institute/National Institutes of Health. His clinical practice features the most comprehensive focal therapy program in upstate New York, offering High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), cryotherapy, and other ablative technologies.

Dr. Frye's research focuses on optimizing prostate cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment, with particular emphasis on advanced imaging techniques and focal therapy applications. His publications demonstrate expertise in MRI/US fusion biopsy techniques, prostate cancer imaging interpretation, and innovative treatment approaches for localized disease. He actively participates in national clinical trials evaluating focal therapy efficacy for prostate cancer.

Professional affiliations include the American Urological Association (AUA), Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO), American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Focal Therapy Society. As Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, he leads departmental clinical operations while maintaining active patient care at UR Medicine's Ambulatory Care Center and Sawgrass locations in Rochester, NY.

Dr. Frye has served as Lead Researcher for the PROBE Trial, a phase III study comparing immunotherapy-based combination therapy with or without cytoreductive nephrectomy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. His clinical leadership extends to developing protocols for prostate cancer detection, active surveillance, and innovative treatment approaches.
