Thomas N. Robinson, MD, MPH, is the Irving Schulman, MD Endowed Professor in Child Health and Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is also the Director of the Center for Healthy Weight and a Stanford Health Policy Associate. His research focuses on developing evidence-based interventions to prevent and treat obesity, improve nutrition, and promote physical activity in children and families. Dr. Robinson’s work integrates rigorous experimental designs, including randomized controlled trials, and emphasizes translating findings into public health policy.
Dr. Robinson earned his B.S. and M.D. from Stanford University, followed by an M.P.H. in Maternal and Child Health from UC Berkeley. He completed residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, returning to Stanford as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. He joined Stanford’s faculty in 1993 and was promoted to tenured Associate Professor in 2003.
His research interests span obesity prevention, behavioral interventions, and the impact of media on children’s health. He has led numerous NIH-funded studies and serves as a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His awards include recognition from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Institute of Medicine.
