Thomas J. Coon is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Mississippi. He specializes in realistic equine and canine portraiture, with a career spanning over two decades in Virginia's equestrian community. His work is featured in private and international collections, and he has contributed to major events like the Winter Equestrian Festival and Montpelier Hunt Races. He relocated to Oxford, MS in 2022 and continues creating commissioned works and explorative art for future exhibitions.
Education: Associate Fine Arts, Fulton-Montgomery Community College (1987).
Research & Practice: Coon’s expertise lies in capturing the essence of animals through meticulous detail, blending classical techniques with contemporary themes. His work has been showcased in venues such as Brays Island Plantation Spring Expo and Service Dogs of Virginia. He also designed commemorative art for the 75th Montpelier Hunt Races, including a silk scarf that sold out.
