Thomas Coon is an Adjunct Instructor in Art and Art History at the University of Mississippi, where he teaches Art 111 (Drawing I). A visual fine artist specializing in equine and canine portraiture, he is internationally recognized for his realistic renderings influenced by old master techniques. His career spans two decades in Virginia's Horse Country, where he gained prominence as a premier equestrian and canine artist, and he now resides in Oxford, MS since 2022.

Coon’s work focuses on equine and canine portraiture, blending traditional artistic methods with modern subjects. He creates commissions for private clients while developing an explorative body of work for future exhibitions, reflecting his deep engagement with animal portraiture and equestrian culture.
Throughout his career, Coon has been featured in publications such as The Chronicle of the Horse and participated in exhibitions at Brays Island Plantation Spring Expo, Service Dogs of Virginia, and the Montpelier Hunt Races. In 2004, he was the official artist for the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, producing cover designs for promotional materials.
