Thomas Hughes

Professor Thomas Hughes is a distinguished academic cancer biologist at the School of Science, Technology and Health of York St John University. With over 80 peer-reviewed publications, he specializes in understanding cancer biology through gene expression regulation, tumor microenvironment dynamics, and the development of novel nanomedicine-based therapies.

His research integrates clinical and engineering perspectives, collaborating closely with NHS professionals (surgeons, oncologists, pathologists) for translational studies using clinical tissue/data, and with engineers/chemists to advance drug delivery systems. He has supervised 26 doctoral students and designed Masters-level curricula in cellular and molecular medicine.
