Thomas Hone is an Assistant Professor in Global Health Systems Research at the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. His research focuses on health systems in middle-income countries, utilizing quantitative and quasi-experimental methods to analyze health system functioning, performance, and impacts on health outcomes and inequalities.
- Principal investigator for MRC/ESRC/Wellcome/FCDO-funded project on urban violence and health systems in Rio de Janeiro's favelas
- Co-leads NIHR projects on health financing fragmentation and Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
- Collaborates with institutions in Brazil, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and South Africa
His work addresses racial/ethnic health disparities, impacts of macroeconomic fluctuations on health, and primary healthcare reforms. He teaches the BSc Global Health and MPH programs and supervises PhD students examining health system performance in middle-income countries.
