Thomas Hinz is a Professor at the Department of Sociology of the University of Konstanz, with a focus on empirical social research. He serves as a member of the Board at the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality" and contributes to academic governance through roles such as former Dean of the Humanities Section (2010–2015, 2021–2023) and Founding Chair of the Akademie für Soziologie (2017–2019).
- Research Interests: Survey experiments, social inequality, labor market sociology, discrimination, antisemitism, and higher education research.
- Projects: "PerFair" (Students' perceptions of inequality), "Preferences for Redistribution Across EU Member States," and "Perceptions of Gender Wage Inequality."
Recent Publications analyze inequality perceptions in education and labor markets, gender disparities in academic performance, wage discrimination against immigrants in Israel, and antisemitism in German universities. His work integrates multifactorial survey experiments to dissect complex social dynamics.
Affiliated Research Initiatives include the COMO Study (COVID-19 impacts on youth health) and MoMo 2.0 Study (physical activity and social inequality). He also contributes to the long-term Konstanz Citizen Survey.
