معرفی
Thomas Gingeras is a Professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), a member of the Cancer Center, and a leader in functional genomics research. He earned a Ph.D. in Biology from New York University in 1976. His work focuses on noncoding RNAs, genome-wide organization, and their roles in cancer and disease. Gingeras co-leads the ENCODE, mouseENCODE, and modENCODE projects, revolutionizing understanding of pervasive transcription and noncoding RNA functions. His lab investigates how noncoding RNAs regulate genes, particularly in endometrial cancer linked to obesity and adipogenesis. Recent achievements include MaizeCODE studies on plant domestication and EN-TEx epigenome resources.
Education: Ph.D., New York University (1976); Postdoctoral training at CSHL under Roberts RR. Affiliations: CSHL Cancer Center, ENCODE Consortium, Adjunct roles at Stony Brook University and Tsinghua University.
Research Highlights: Pioneered ENCODE's mapping of functional genomic elements, revealed noncoding RNA roles in PTEN regulation and cancer. Key publications include MaizeCODE's enhancer analysis (2024), human gene catalog studies (2023), and EN-TEx epigenome resources (2023). Honors include top 1% cited researcher (2014–2019) and 2024 NSF grant for crop resilience.
Grants & Awards: $2M NSF grant for aluminum toxicity research, leadership in ENCODE, and recognition for insights into the 'dark genome.'
