Thomas G. Blomberg is the Dean and Sheldon L. Messinger Professor of Criminology at Florida State University's College of Criminology & Criminal Justice. He also serves as Executive Director of the Center for Criminology and Public Policy Research. His work focuses on linking research to public policy, particularly in elderly financial fraud prevention and the role of education in reducing recidivism among youthful offenders.
Blomberg holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.A. in Criminology and Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley. His research explores life course criminology, penology, victim services, and policy translation. Notable projects include a national survey on elderly financial fraud victimization and a $18 million juvenile justice education initiative.
His recent publications emphasize translational criminology, elder financial exploitation, and criminal justice reform. Awards include top honors from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences for his research contributions.
Grants led by Blomberg include major projects like the Domestic Violence Homicide Prevention Program (NIJ-funded), Jail Alternatives Assessment (Broward County), and the Juvenile Justice No Child Left Behind Collaboration (DOJ-funded). He also chairs leading criminology journals and advises national organizations like the National Policing Institute.
