Thomas F. Haddox is a Professor in the Department of Literature at the University of Tennessee, specializing in 20th-century American literature, religion-spirituality intersections, and Southern/Appalachian studies. He holds a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University and has held the Lindsay Young Professorship (2017-2021). His research bridges literary theory, history, and aesthetics, with notable works including Hard Sayings (2013) and Fears and Fascinations (2005). He teaches courses on Southern literature, religion in American writing, and historicist criticism.
Dr. Haddox’s awards include the Best Faculty Mentor (2021) and the Andrew J. Kappel Prize (2018). His current project explores a 'Narrative Theory of Grace.' He has contributed to journals like Philosophy and Literature, Women’s Studies, and South Atlantic Review, focusing on interdisciplinary themes such as pedagogy, affect theory, and historical narrative.
