Misty G. Anderson is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of Tennessee's College of Arts & Sciences, holding the prestigious Lindsay Young Chair of Excellence in the Humanities. She also maintains courtesy appointments in Theatre and Religious Studies. Anderson earned her B.A. from Yale University (majoring in English) and graduate degrees from Vanderbilt University.
Her research focuses on Restoration and 18th-century British literature, with interdisciplinary expertise in theater history, performance studies, gender theory, queer studies, and the history of religion. Her current book project, God on Stage, examines religious performances in early modern theater.
Anderson's publications consistently explore intersections of performance, gender, and religion in 18th-century Britain. Her work demonstrates recurring themes: satire as cultural critique, the politics of theatrical representation, and feminist reinterpretations of literary history.
