Thomas E. Jenkins is a Professor of Classical Studies at Trinity University, where he has taught since 2001. He previously served as Chair of the Department of Classical Studies and Director of the Collaborative for Learning and Teaching. Jenkins earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and his B.A. from Yale University.
His research focuses on classical reception, particularly how ancient works appear in contemporary media including novels, performance, and video games. Jenkins is especially known for his work on adaptations of classical literature in modern contexts, with research interests spanning classical drama, Augustan literature, reception theory, and gender studies. His teaching includes the innovative course 'Antiquity and Modernity,' which he has taught since 2003, and 'Reimagining Tragedy,' which he team-teaches with theater professor Kyle Gillette.
Jenkins' publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on classical reception in modern media, with recent work examining adaptations in television (Troy: Fall of a City), theater (Hadestown), and various other contemporary formats. His scholarship often bridges traditional classical studies with popular culture and media studies.
