Thomas Dalton is a Professor of Accountancy and Taxation at the University of San Diego's Knauss School of Business. He holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Houston, an MS in Business Administration/Accounting from San Diego State University, and a BS in Environmental Health from the same institution. Previously, he served as Associate Dean of the Knauss School (2000–2004) and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs (2009–2015).

Dalton’s research focuses on taxation, retirement planning, and financial strategy. His work spans partnership tax compliance, corporate tax reform, and Social Security policy analysis. Recent publications examine flat tax models, foreign student tax obligations, IRA selection, and Social Security collection timing.
His academic contributions include the Steber Professor award (2003–04) and numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals like CPA Journal and Practical Tax Strategies. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has provided expert testimony on tax and educational issues.
