University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centerمعرفی
Thomas Carroll, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Nephrology. He holds multiple director roles, including Director of Basic Science Research in Nephrology and Director of the Mechanisms of Disease and Translational Science Graduate Program. His research focuses on kidney development and polycystic kidney disease, particularly the roles of Wnt and Hippo signaling pathways in nephron formation and kidney progenitor cell differentiation. Dr. Carroll’s work has been supported by NIH grants, and he is recognized for mentorship of early-career researchers.
Education: B.S. in Biology (U.C. Davis), Ph.D. in Zoology (U.T. Austin), Postdoctoral Fellowship (Harvard). Joined UT Southwestern faculty in 2004.
Research Interests: Kidney development mechanisms, regenerative strategies, and signaling pathways (Wnt, Hippo) in kidney diseases. His lab explores how these pathways regulate nephron progenitor cell differentiation and tubule morphogenesis, with implications for polycystic kidney disease and regenerative medicine.
Key Trends in Articles: Focus on kidney progenitor cell biology, vascular development, and molecular mechanisms of kidney disease. Recent work addresses RNA methylation’s role in nephrogenesis and engineering vascularized kidney organoids.
Labs/Teams: Carroll Lab, collaborating on kidney development and regenerative strategies. Open to new researchers and collaborations in kidney biology.
