معرفی
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Carolus is a faculty member at the University of Siegen’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, leading international collaborations in renewable energy through the ERASMUS KA 107-funded project 'Green Institute for Renewable Energy' with Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) in Kenya (2017–2020). His work focuses on training engineering graduates, establishing research infrastructure, and advancing wind/solar technologies.
- Co-developed DeKUT’s M.Sc. in Energy Systems with electives in wind turbine technology, geothermal power, and solar energy
- Led creation of the Renewable Energy Research and Information Center (RERIC) test site in Kenya
- Delivered courses on 'Wind Turbine Technology' and 'Intercultural Communication' at DeKUT
Carolus’s research emphasizes practical renewable energy implementations, including mini-wind park optimization studies, thermosolar heating integration, and public demonstration centers. Collaborations extended to Chemistry/Food Science via DeKUT’s Prof. Nancy Karuri and USI’s Prof. Schönherr.
Advising highlights include supervising DeKUT Master’s students James Maina Muriithi and Alfred Giftmwachugha during their theses in Germany, and hosting USI research associate Kevin Volkmer at DeKUT for wind turbine research.
Future goals for RERIC include grid-connected wind turbines generating revenue, visitor centers for public education, and training programs on turbine performance monitoring, maintenance, and environmental impact analysis.
