Thomas Böhmer is a Geoecologist at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) within the Polar Terrestrial Environmental Systems department. His work focuses on Arctic terrestrial ecosystems, permafrost dynamics, and climate change impacts. He contributes to long-term observations and interdisciplinary research on high-latitude environmental systems.
His research interests include permafrost biogeochemistry, Arctic vegetation change, and Earth system diagnostics. Böhmer collaborates on projects like Yedoma Permafrost Landscapes and Nunataryuk, addressing permafrost thaw and associated greenhouse gas emissions. He maintains active involvement in field campaigns and data-driven analyses, leveraging repositories like EPIC and PANGAEA for publication of research outputs.
