Dr. Bullington's research focuses on the intersections of botany and literature in the long 18th century (1660-1800). His teaching specialties encompass Restoration and 18th century British literature, gothic fiction, young adult fiction, LGBTQIA+ literature, and the history of the English language. He has developed courses in the Great Books program and integrates service learning through Little Free Libraries projects in downtown Macon.
His recent scholarly work examines botanical metaphors in 18th-century literature, particularly in the writings of Maria Edgeworth and transatlantic botanical exchanges. Both publications from 2020 explore how botanical knowledge shaped literary and cultural boundaries during the period.
Dr. Bullington actively mentors students through his role as faculty advisor for Common Ground and by incorporating community engagement into his integrative studies courses. He has also contributed to public scholarship via podcast interviews discussing literature and sexuality.
He is involved in organizing Mercer's annual Gothic Festival and leads service learning initiatives centered around Little Free Libraries in Macon.
