Dr. Thomas Bortolotti is an Assistant Professor in Operations Management at the University of Groningen, Netherlands. He holds a master’s (cum laude) in Industrial and Management Engineering from the University of Udine, Italy, and a PhD in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from the University of Bergamo (collaborating with SDA Bocconi and MIT-Zaragoza). Previously, he worked as a Senior Lecturer at Swansea University (UK) and as a post-doctoral researcher in Italy. His expertise includes Lean Management, Supply Chain Management, Service Operations, and High Performance Manufacturing, with a focus on empirical methods like Structural Equation Modelling and case studies. He leads the UK arm of the international HPM research project and has published widely in top journals like the International Journal of Operations & Production Management and International Journal of Production Economics. His work has earned awards such as the Emerald Highly Commended Paper Award (2016) and the World P&OM Conference Best Paper Award (2012).
