Thomas Boesen is an Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at Aarhus University's Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) within the INANO-MBG department. He is affiliated with Poul Nissen's research group and collaborates with the Centre for Structural Biology and the PUMPKIN Centre. His research focuses on bacterial nanowires, neurotransmitter transporters, and bacterial pathogenesis, employing structural biology techniques like X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM.
Boesen's work addresses fundamental questions in microbial electron transport, neurobiology, and antimicrobial strategies. He supervises PhD and Master's students and offers project opportunities in his lab. His group investigates protein structures to advance applications in bioelectronics and drug design, with recent studies on cable bacteria conduction machinery and cannabinoid receptor mechanisms.
Collaborations include projects on atmospheric bacterial dispersal and CRISPR-based gene therapy delivery systems. His lab is part of multidisciplinary initiatives addressing structural biology challenges in health and environmental science.
