Professor Dr. Thomas Apolte is a faculty member at the University of Münster, holding the Chair of Political Economy within the Münster School of Business and Economics. His academic roles include former Dean (2010–2012), Vice Dean for Teaching, and leadership in the Institute of Economic Education. He obtained his Habilitation in 1998 and Doctorate in Economics (Dr. rer. oec.) in 1992 from Duisburg University. His research focuses on political economy, democracy/dictatorship dynamics, labor markets, and public choice theory. Key projects include organizing the International Conference on 'The Political Economy of Democracy and Dictatorship' since 2016, exploring regime transitions and institutional lobbying. He has held visiting professorships at West Virginia University and Jagiellonian University, and his work spans over 80 publications. His courses include advanced topics like the Political Economy of Climate Change and Public Choice Theory. He actively contributes to academic societies like the Verein für Socialpolitik and the Walter Eucken Institute.
