Dr. Helena Helfer is a Professor and Chair of Political Economy at the University of Münster's School of Business and Economics (WiWi-Fakultät). Her research focuses on Institutional Economics, Public Choice Theory, Growth Economics, and Political Economy, with a particular interest in democracy and institutional frameworks. She leads the International Conference on 'The Political Economy of Democracy and Dictatorship', supported by DFG and other institutions. Her work includes developing composite indices for prosperity-enhancing institutions and analyzing the social market economy.
Education:

Research Projects: Current initiatives include the Institutions and Prosperity Project (since 2014) and the PEDD Conference Series. She has also organized the 7th International Conference on the Political Economy of Democracy and Dictatorship (2024), funded by DFG.
Teaching: Teaches courses like Advanced Public Choice, Economics of Institutions and Development, and Macroeconomics. Courses are primarily in German with some in English.
Professional Affiliations: Member of the Association for Comparative Economic Studies, WINIR, INFER, and the Verein für Socialpolitik.
