Thom Vernon

Thom Vernon is an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and English at Thompson Rivers University with adjunct roles at the University of New Brunswick. His Vanier-awarded doctoral research theorizes failure as a creative tool. A multidisciplinary artist, his work spans novels, essays, and multimedia performances exploring queer identity and stigma transmutation.

Research focuses on creative writing pedagogy, queer theory, and literary aesthetics with emphasis on failure as a generative force. His 2024 novel examines self-erasure themes, while his National Magazine Award-winning essay reflects on pandemic experiences.

Honors include the Edna Staebler Prize and fellowships from SSHRC. He actively contributes to academic conferences and edited collections on failure in literary contexts while developing XR applications for cultural narratives.
