Thierry Renaux is a Research Fellow at the Center for Historical Research (UMR8558, EHESS/CNRS), focusing on the history of technology and industrial heritage. He holds a doctorate in the history of techniques, with his thesis exploring the aluminum industry in the 19th century. His work received recognition through a special mention in the Crédit Agricole Prize for Business History. Currently, he contributes to the ANR ARCHIPAL research group, which investigates aluminum’s role in architecture and heritage from the 20th to 21st centuries.
His research interests include industrial materials, technological history, and the preservation of industrial heritage. He co-authored Pouchard the Saga of the Tube in Pantin (2020) and contributed to studies on aluminum production in Salindres. He actively participates in academic conferences, such as sessions on aluminum in architecture at the Industrial Heritage Reloaded event.
Thierry’s work integrates methodological approaches from both architecture and history to document aluminum’s presence in built heritage, aiming to preserve its tangible and intangible traces.
