Loup-Marie Calosci is a Geographer, Urban Planner, and Architect by training, currently pursuing doctoral studies at the AHTTEP laboratory (UMR AUSser) at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris La Villette (ENSAP-LV) and at Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University. They serve as a Lecturer in the History of Architecture at ENSAPLV, teaching in the master's program, and also instruct on the urban project and representation of territory in the DSA Architecture and Urban Project program at ENSA Paris Belleville. Additionally, they teach at the École spéciale d'architecture and the École spéciale des travaux publics.
Their research focuses on the production of European and American new towns from the second half of the 20th century to the present day, examining architectural and urban model transfers. They are currently a study engineer for the ANR ARCHIPAL (Architecture, Heritage and Aluminium) research program, a four-year initiative launched in January 2019 that investigates aluminum's role in architectural heritage. This work involves creating an inventory of buildings featuring aluminum in their construction across France.
Calosci's scholarly work demonstrates expertise in architectural history, material studies, and urban development, with particular emphasis on industrial heritage. Their recent presentations at the Industrial Heritage Reloaded conference reveal methodological approaches to studying architectural materials, building documentation, and textometric analysis of architectural publications. Their research bridges historical analysis with contemporary architectural concerns, examining how past innovations in building materials continue to influence present-day practice and heritage conservation.
- Doctoral contract from the Ministry of Culture and Communication
As an educator, Calosci supervises students in architecture and urban planning programs across multiple prestigious French institutions. They maintain an active scholarly presence through their blog 'PICTURBAN: From image to urban imagination,' where they publish articles on architectural history, urban development, and material studies covering topics including new town development, Art Deco architecture, and analyses of specific architectural landmarks like the Velasca Tower in Milan.
Calosci leads research within the AHTTEP laboratory, focusing on the intersection of architectural history, material science, and urban development. Their work on the ARCHIPAL project represents a significant contribution to understanding industrial heritage through the lens of building materials, particularly aluminum's role in 20th and 21st century architecture.
