Thierry Allain is a Lecturer in Early Modern History at Paul-Valéry University Montpellier III, affiliated with the Montpellier Interdisciplinary Research Center in Human and Social Sciences (CRISES). He is also an associate researcher at the Breton and Celtic Research Center (University of Western Brittany) and UMR TELEMME (Aix-en-Provence).
- Research Areas: Urban history, commercial history of the Mediterranean (17th-18th century), history of international relations (16th-18th century), and history of the United Provinces.
- Education: Doctorate in History (2007, Panthéon-Sorbonne University & Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), Master’s and DEA in History (1993-1994, Sorbonne), CAPES (1996), Aggregation (1997), and Dutch LCE (2001).
Publications include monographs on Enkhuizen’s decline (2015), interdisciplinary studies on spatial representation (2018), and edited volumes on Dutch Golden Age diplomacy (2018). His work focuses on maritime networks, consular information systems, and urban identity shifts during economic decline.
Research Projects: Contributed to the ANR Fiduciae project (2015-2017) and the Dictionary of the Netherlands in the Golden Age (2014-2018). He has organized interdisciplinary seminars and conferences on Mediterranean urban dynamics and maritime dispute resolution.
