Thiago Nascimento da Silva

Thiago Nascimento da Silva is a Lecturer at the School of Politics & International Relations at the Australian National University (ANU), and Deputy Director of the Australian Centre for Federalism. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Texas A&M University and an M.Sc. from the University of São Paulo. Prior to his current role, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher in Political Economy at the University of Mannheim (2019–2022).

His research focuses on comparative politics, particularly political institutions, political economy, and coalition governments. Key themes include the institutional variations in democracies, executive-legislative relations in coalition systems, voter behavior, and policy perception. His work has been published in leading journals such as the American Political Science Review and European Journal of Political Research.

Thiago is co-authoring a forthcoming book with David Fortunato and Laron Williams on voter perceptions of political parties, to be published by Cambridge University Press. His research also explores fiscal capacity, gender representation in local governance, and the dynamics of political competition in multiparty systems.

He is registered to supervise research students and actively collaborates with global institutions. His current projects include studies on territorial redistribution in federal systems and the role of opposition in parliamentary democracies.
