Mariyana Angelova is an Assistant Professor of Comparative Politics at the Department of Political Science, Central European University (CEU) in Vienna. She previously served as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Vienna’s Department of Government, focusing on the SFB 884 Collaborative Research Center analyzing political economy reforms. She holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Mannheim (2019), alongside MA and BA degrees from the same institution.
Her research centers on legislative policy-making, voter behavior in parliamentary democracies, strategic timing of reforms, EU policy compliance, and coalition governance dynamics. She examines topics such as coalition compromise perceptions, responsibility attribution in multi-party systems, and the impact of digitalization on political polarization. Her work has been published in top-tier journals like the British Journal of Political Science, European Journal of Political Research, and European Union Politics.
Angelova is actively involved in interdisciplinary collaborations, including the German Internet Panel (GIP) and cross-country surveys across 12 Central and Western European nations. Her methodological expertise spans survey experiments, quantitative text analysis, and programming.
