Theresa Stotesbury is an Associate Professor in the Department of Forensic Science at Ontario Tech University's Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on forensic materials, bloodstain degradation, and forensic chemistry, with a particular emphasis on developing synthetic blood substitutes and analytical methods for crime scene investigations. She leads the Stotesbury Research Group, which collaborates with forensic agencies and has pioneered studies on bloodstain aging and recovery of hidden evidence. Dr. Stotesbury holds a PhD in Materials Science from Trent University and has held prior roles including Research Scientist at the Ontario Provincial Police.
Her educational background includes a BSc and MSc in Forensic Science from Trent University and the University of Auckland. She teaches courses such as Forensic Chemistry, Instrumental Analytical Chemistry, and Drug Chemistry and Toxicology. Her research innovations include silicon sol-gel blood substitutes and mass spectrometry imaging techniques recognized in peer-reviewed journals. She actively publishes in high-impact forensic science journals and contributes to pedagogical advancements in forensic training methodologies.
