Theodoros Papadopoulos is a Lecturer in the Department of Social and Policy Sciences at the University of Bath. He holds a PhD in Social Policy from the University of York and directs the Centre for the Analysis of Social Policy and Society (CASPS). His research examines power dynamics in public policy, family as a socioeconomic actor, and labor commodification within welfare systems.
Research interests focus on three interconnected themes: EU economic governance and transnational ordoliberalism; political economy in semi-peripheral capitalist regions (East Asia, Southern Europe, Latin America); and the social impacts of austerity on middle classes. Methodologically, he specializes in comparative policy analysis, micro-data simulation, and historical institutionalism.
Publications consistently explore austerity politics, welfare capitalism transformations, and social (in)security frameworks across European and Asian contexts. Recent articles analyze conditional cash transfers in Latin America, the erosion of Southern Europe's middle class, and EU regulatory transformations.
Significant projects include serving as Country Expert for the Collaborative Research Centre 'Global Dynamics of Social Policy' (2018-2022) and National Respondent for Greece in multiple international social policy initiatives. He supervises doctoral students investigating political economy, governance, and social policy themes.
