Theodore Ryan is an Adjunct Professor in the Engineering Graduate and Professional Programs at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering, teaching Management and Leadership to Master of Engineering Management students. With 40+ years as a management consultant, he has advised global organizations including Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and Accenture on executive development and organizational strategy.
His educational background includes:
- B.A., High Honors, in Philosophy and Anthropology from Wheaton College (Ill.)
- Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary (Counseling and Developmental Psychology)
- Ph.D. in Clinical, Vocational and Organizational Psychology from Columbia University (1977)
- Ph.D. studies in Ethics, Personality, Society & Culture at Princeton University
Ted's research centers on human-centered organizational performance, examining how ethical leadership drives stakeholder well-being while achieving business excellence. His current work investigates the intersection of high-performance systems, moral frameworks, and cross-cultural team dynamics, challenging shareholder-value orthodoxy through humane capitalism models.
As Chief Learning Officer of Choosing High Performance™, he has designed leadership programs for Morgan Stanley's global officers and Bank of America's executives. His proprietary Select for Success™ hiring methodology has transformed talent acquisition at Accenture and Merrill Lynch, while his Wall Street 360-evaluation system pioneered computer-driven performance assessment.
Ted serves on boards including the Episcopal Church Foundation (Chairing Governance Committee) and Rick Herrema Foundation, and recently authored a Cambridge University Press chapter on stakeholder capitalism.
