Theodore Christou is a Professor and Associate Dean (Graduate Studies and Research) in Queen's University's Faculty of Education. He holds a cross-appointment to the Department of History (Faculty of Arts and Science) and is affiliated with the Cultural Studies Program and the International Centre for the Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation. Christou holds a PhD in Curriculum Studies (Queen's University, 2009), MA in Child Study and Education (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, 2003), and BAH in Classics, French, and English Literature (University of Toronto, 2001). His research focuses on history of education, philosophy of education, curriculum theory, and teacher education, emphasizing questions about the purposes of education and the interplay between historical context and contemporary educational practices. He has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including influential works on progressive education rhetoric, collaborative inquiry in teacher professional development, and Byzantine educational philosophy.

Christou's recent work explores intersections between historical pedagogy and contemporary policy, including studies of 21st-century learning reforms, the role of collaborative inquiry in educator practice, and the philosophical underpinnings of inclusive education. He serves on the SSHRC Vanier Scholarship selection committee and edits Antistasis: An Open Education Journal. His teaching spans philosophy of education, history of education, and social studies curriculum design at both undergraduate and doctoral levels.
Publications highlight his commitment to revitalizing humanities in teacher education, such as Gone but Not Forgotten (2009) arguing for educational history's centrality, and Raising an Athlete for Christ (2018) analyzing Byzantine educational philosophy. Current projects include mapping global perspectives on inclusive education and examining the rhetorical evolution of Ontario's progressivist educational reforms.
Grants/Leadership: Led evaluations of Ontario's collaborative inquiry initiatives (2014), co-edited international handbooks on history/social studies education (2020), and oversees graduate programs as Faculty Associate Dean.
