Thea Leusink-Muis is a Researcher and Teacher in the Department of Pharmacology within the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. She maintains active research and teaching roles with offices in both the David de Wied Building and New Gildestein Building on the Utrecht campus. Her work spans pharmacological research with a focus on respiratory diseases, inflammation, and immune responses.
Her research interests center on in vitro and in vivo pharmacology related to COPD, asthma, diabetes, colitis, and Crohn's disease. She investigates the gut-lung axis, effects of dietary components including human milk oligosaccharides on immune responses, and mechanisms of airway inflammation. Her work frequently employs murine disease models to study the pathophysiology of respiratory conditions and potential therapeutic interventions.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on the intersection of respiratory diseases, immune responses, and nutritional interventions. Her work spans multiple disciplines including pharmacology, immunology, and nutrition science, with particular emphasis on how dietary components can modulate inflammatory responses in respiratory conditions. Many studies examine the gut-lung axis and how interventions targeting the gut microbiome might affect respiratory outcomes.
Leusink-Muis teaches multiple courses including FA-CPS102 Body-Drug interactions, FA-BA101 Introduction to Pharmacy, FA-BA201 Infection and Immunity, FA-BA211 Airways, FA-BA303 Chronic Inflammation, BMW30405 General Pharmacology, and supervises bachelor theses through FA-BA380 Bachelor Thesis (BWS) and GEO-4 courses. Her teaching spans foundational pharmacy concepts to specialized topics in respiratory pharmacology and inflammation.
