Thava Palanisami

Dr. Thava Palanisami is an Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle's School of Engineering. His research focuses on environmental risk assessment, remediation technologies for mixed contaminants (including microplastics and PFAS), and contaminant transformation products. He leads innovative projects on microplastic aging, risk assessment methodologies, and Next-Gen remediation technologies aimed at preserving resource value while removing pollutants.

His research interests span:

• Microplastic ecotoxicology and human health impacts

• Biofilm interactions with environmental pollutants
• Nanoparticle applications in environmental cleanup
