Thais Council is an Assistant Professor of Literacy at the University of Kentucky and a Faculty Affiliate of African American and Africana Studies. She joined the university in 2021 after nearly two decades as a reading specialist, literacy advocate, and teacher educator.
Her research focuses on addressing structural inequities in historically marginalized urban schools and disenfranchised communities by centering Black-led community-based practices and employing the Black Intellectual Tradition as a theoretical lens. She utilizes participatory research methods to challenge hegemonic academic frameworks.
