Kamahra Ewing is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and the African American and Africana Studies Program at the University of Kentucky. Her work focuses on Global Black Studies, Postcolonial/Decolonial Theories, and Media/Film Studies, with a geographic emphasis on Brazil, Jamaica, and the UK. She employs mixed-methods ethnographic research in African immigrant and Black Atlantic communities.

Research Interests: Ewing explores contemporary African and diasporic media flows, counter-hegemonic narratives, and intersections of gender, religion, and identity. Her dissertation, “Nollywood Goes to Brazil: Counter-hegemonic Media Flows in the African Diaspora,” examines transnational cultural exchanges. She also investigates virtual social capital and multicultural literary traditions.
Affiliations: Affiliated with the International Film Studies and Social Theory programs at the University of Kentucky.
