Nneka Dennie is an Assistant Professor of History at Washington and Lee University's College, specializing in African-American history with a focus on Black feminist thought, radicalism, and transnational feminism. She holds affiliations from Davidson College (postdoctoral fellow), MIT (visiting scholar), and the University of Cincinnati (affiliate faculty). Her research interrogates Black women’s intellectual histories and their global resistance strategies. Currently, she teaches courses like Black Radical Women and African American Intellectual History, emphasizing contemporary social justice movements. Dennie actively engages campus communities through panel discussions on antiracism, Black protest, and abolitionism, collaborating with Africana Studies and student organizations like SABU. She is developing two book manuscripts under contract, exploring Black feminist nationalism and African-American intellectual traditions.
Her work critically examines intersections of race, gender, and class, often centering marginalized voices in historical narratives. Recent courses have contextualized current events like BLM protests and pandemic impacts through historical frameworks. Dennie advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to understanding systemic inequities, blending academic rigor with community engagement.
