Tessa Provins is an Assistant Professor in the School of Government and Public Policy at the University of Arizona. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University (2013), and an M.A. (2016) and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Merced (2018). Her research focuses on two primary areas: American legislative institutions and Indigenous institutions/policy. In legislative studies, she analyzes how institutional design affects outcomes for racially, gendered, and partisan groups. Her Indigenous politics work examines tribal governance structures (e.g., Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) and their impacts on intra-/inter-tribal relations and policy. She adopts a pan-tribal approach in much of this research.
