Professor Blythe K. George is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Merced. She is a member of the Yurok Tribe and specializes in tribal communities, Indigenous studies, and qualitative methodologies. Her work focuses on adversity and resilience in tribal contexts, including criminal justice reform, mass incarceration, and public policy. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology & Social Policy from Harvard University (2020), an M.A. from Harvard (2016), and a B.A. from Dartmouth College (2012).
Research Highlights:
- Book manuscript on tribal fathers with criminal records and their socio-cultural dynamics
- Co-lead of the To'Kee Skuy'Soo Ney-Wo-Chek' project addressing missing Indigenous women and two-spirit peoples
- Founded the Yurok Data Repository and Modeling Center, a tribally housed justice policy research center
Awards: Includes the Circle 3 Fellowship (2021) and UC Berkeley Presidential Postdoctoral Fellowship (2020–2021). Her work is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, and Indigenous Education, Inc.
