Terry Welker is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at Miami University. He holds dual Master of Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from the University of Cincinnati, where he also served as an Adjunct/Visiting Professor from 1987-1993. Licensed as an Ohio Architect since 1983 and Ohio Building Official since 2000, he has held leadership roles including Chief Building Official/City Architect for Kettering (2000-2022) and is currently an Ohio Master Plans examiner.
His expertise spans architectural design, urban planning, public art, and building standards. Notable professional memberships include the American Institute of Architects (AIA) since 1987, serving on its Strategic Council (2019-2021) and as AIA Ohio President (2013). He contributes to professional development through building code education since 2002 and urban sketching workshops since 2010.
His creative works include major public installations like the 8-4 Mass Shooting Memorial (Dayton, 2023) and Golden Section Spiral (Boston Children's Hospital, 2021). Awards include the AIA Ohio Gold Medal (2023) and AIA College of Fellows (2016).
Teaching focuses on advanced design studios (ARC 301/402), architectural fundamentals (ARC 101/105), and technical media (ARC 113). Professional service includes roles with Kettering Art in Public Places and the Westcott House Board of Directors.
