University of British Columbiaمعرفی
Dr. Terry Snutch is a Professor at the Michael Smith Laboratories (MSL) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), with cross-appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry, Zoology, and the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of neuronal signaling, particularly calcium channels and their roles in neurological disorders such as migraine, epilepsy, and chronic pain. He leads the CanCOGeN-VirusSeq initiative for sequencing SARS-CoV-2 genomes during the pandemic.
Education: PhD in Molecular Genetics from Simon Fraser University (SFU), followed by postdoctoral training at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Research interests include ion channel modulation, G-protein signaling, and translational drug development. His lab has pioneered targeted therapies for neurological disorders and co-founded Zalicus (now NeuroMed) for drug commercialization.
Awards include the Margolese Brain Disorders Prize and CIHR grants. His work spans academic leadership, industry partnerships, and pandemic response through genomic sequencing collaborations across Canada.
