Dr. Jasmin Lalonde is an Associate Professor and Director of the Neuroscience Graduate Program at the University of Guelph's Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. She leads the Lalonde Lab, focusing on molecular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders, neuronal plasticity, and calcium signaling. Her work integrates stem cell biology, pharmacology, and genomic techniques to study schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and brain tumors. She holds grants from NSERC, Brain Canada, and the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation.
Education:
- B.A. Honours, University of Ottawa (1999)
- M.A., McGill University (2001)
- Ph.D., McGill University (2008)
Research Interests: Her lab investigates store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) in brain development, molecular control of neuroplasticity via Arc protein, and patient-derived iPSC models for neuropsychiatric disorders. Techniques include live-cell imaging, proteomics, and drug screening assays.
Grants & Awards:
- NSERC Research Grant
- Brain Canada Future Leaders Award
- CIHR Postdoctoral Fellowship
Lab Members: Includes postdoctoral fellows (Dr. Begüm Alural, Dr. Hannah Robeson) and graduate students (Natalina Becke, Jennifer Holborn). The lab collaborates with institutions like the Broad Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Teaching: Courses include Introduction to Molecular and Cellular Biology, Molecular Mechanisms of Neurological Disorders, and Research Topics in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
