Lynn Raymond is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Medicine, and Co-Director of the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health. Her work bridges clinical neurology practice and research, focusing on Huntington disease (HD) pathogenesis. Dr. Raymond’s lab investigates synaptic dysfunction, glutamate receptor signaling, and cortical-striatal circuitry using mouse models. She developed automated behavioral assessment tools and electrophysiological/optogenetic methods to study HD mechanisms. As Director of UBC’s HD Medical Clinic and practicing neurologist, she contributes to clinical trials and multi-center studies. She previously served as Canadian Association for Neuroscience President and holds the Louise A. Brown Chair in Neuroscience.
Education: MD, PhD, FRCPC. Research emphasizes HD’s synaptic and circuit-level disruptions, with a focus on NMDA receptor trafficking, calcium homeostasis, and early synaptic plasticity changes. Techniques include in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, and automated home-cage behavioral systems. Key contributions include identifying striatal NMDAR dysregulation as a central HD mechanism and advancing drug testing platforms.
Scientific Contributions: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles on HD mechanisms, clinical trials, and synaptic physiology. Current initiatives include exploring endocannabinoid signaling’s neuroprotective role and refining therapeutic targets for HD. Her lab also collaborates on imaging HD circuit changes and developing non-invasive assessment tools.
