Professor Terry Sicular is a Professorial Research Associate at the SOAS China Institute, SOAS University of London, and a Professor of Economics at Western University (Canada). She also holds roles as an invited professor at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon and an honorary guest professor at Beijing Normal University.
Her research focuses on the Chinese economy, integrating economic analysis with historical, political, and institutional perspectives. Key interests include income inequality, rural poverty, and China’s socioeconomic development. She has contributed to seminal works such as Changing Trends in China’s Inequality (Oxford UP) and has published in journals like The China Journal and China Economic Review.
Awarded the Sun Yefang Prize in Economic Science twice, Dr. Sicular has been a lead researcher in the China Household Survey Project (CHIP) since 2000. She has advised international organizations including the World Bank, United Nations, and Asian Development Bank. Her academic journey includes prior appointments at Stanford University and Harvard University, with degrees from Pomona College and a PhD in Economics from Yale University.
