Terry Robertson Ph.D. serves as the Department Chair of Recreation and Leisure Studies at California State University, Long Beach within the College of Health & Human Services. With an extensive background in both academic leadership and professional practice, Dr. Robertson oversees all fiscal, personnel, resources and curriculum within his department. His career bridges academic scholarship with practical application in recreation and therapeutic services.
Dr. Robertson's research interests focus on applied evaluation and research, therapeutic recreation, recreation therapy, health and wellness, quality of life, access and inclusion to recreation and leisure, adaptive recreation, and physical activity and sports. His scholarly work spans over 40 publications and 175 presentations, with recent contributions including textbooks, book chapters, and research articles addressing critical issues in recreation and leisure services.
His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on health promotion, therapeutic applications of recreation, and inclusive programming. Recent works examine wheelchair rugby's psychological impacts, foundations of therapeutic recreation, health and wellness frameworks, and sustainable community approaches to enhancing human capacities through leisure services. His scholarship reflects both theoretical depth and practical application in the field.
