Terry A. Ratzlaff is an Assistant Professor of Digital Media/Photography in the Department of Art at Nebraska Wesleyan University, teaching courses including Introduction to Digital Media, Darkroom Photography, and Senior Capstone. His office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5pm or by appointment.
He holds a B.A. in Photography from The Art Institute of Colorado (2007) and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2021).
Ratzlaff's artistic research deconstructs modern perceptions of time, history, and technological progress through sequential imagery. His major projects include 'The Tide Goes North' (2013-2014) examining Alaskan salmon fishing and sustainability; 'Take Your Time' (2019-present) analyzing trains as meaning-making systems and obsession within railfan culture; 'The Watcher' (2018) documenting ritualistic train-watching notations; and 'But The Eyes Are Blind' (2015-2018) investigating anonymous sexual encounters via Craigslist.
His scientific awards include:
- 2020 Fling Fellow (University of Nebraska-Lincoln)
A Society of Photographic Education (SPE) member, Ratzlaff has produced commissioned work for The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, and Bloomberg Businessweek. He operates The Basement Window imprint, creating limited edition artist books and boxes exploring temporal and social themes.
