Terri Geis is a Professor at The European Graduate School (EGS) and Curator of Academic Engagement at Pomona College Museum of Art (Claremont, US). She previously held roles as Director of Education at The Fowler Museum at UCLA (2016–2018) and Curator of Academic Programs at Pomona College Museum of Art (2011–2016). Her academic journey includes a BA in Art History and English Literature from the University of St. Andrews (UK), an MPhil in Women’s Studies from Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), and a PhD in Art History and Theory from the University of Essex (UK), focusing on Indigenism and Gender in the work of María Izquierdo.
Geis specializes in curating exhibitions that bridge art history, gender studies, and cultural anthropology. Notable projects include co-curating Exquisite Corpse: Ted Joans (2018–19) and How to Make the Universe Right (2017). Her research explores intersections of art, religion, and identity, with recent publications analyzing surrealist artists like Stella Snead and Nahui Olin. She also serves on editorial boards for Studies in Photography and Nierika.
Her academic contributions include co-editing Prometheus 2017 (2017), which re-examined Mexican muralism, and In Wonderland (2012), a seminal work on surrealist women artists. Despite no formal awards listed, her extensive curation and publication record underscores her scholarly impact.
Geis has collaborated with institutions globally, including La Sirène de Yene (Senegal) and Maumaus/Lumiar Cité (Portugal). Her work often centers on marginalized voices in art history, blending exhibition curation with academic rigor.
